The role
The role of a Street Cleaner is to help Keep our Community Clean and Welcoming! As a Street Cleaner, the role is essential in maintaining exceptional cleanliness and hygiene of our public spaces. From our streets, parks, and town centres are free from litter, debris, and waste. Your daily tasks will include litter picking, sweeping, rubbish collection, and pavement washing all contributing to a safer, more pleasant environment for everyone who lives in or visits our town.


Duties will include but not be limited to:

•    Operate sweeper vehicles to clean streets, car parks, and public areas with precision and care
•    Conduct pre- and post-operation checks, and carry out minor routine maintenance on your vehicle
•    Follow daily and weekly cleaning schedules, ensuring all routes are completed on time and to a high standard
•    Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all safety protocols, especially when handling chemicals or navigating traffic
•    Respond quickly to emergency or unplanned clean-up requests (e.g., spills, debris, storm aftermath)
•    Inspect and report hazards such as illegal dumping, vandalism, or blocked drains
•    Maintain accurate logs of issues, maintenance, and cleaning reports
•    Engage professionally with the public, answering cleanliness concerns with courtesy and respect
•    Work independently or as part of a coordinated team and always ready to support your fellow workers
•    Think on your feet and adapt to changing conditions or challenges during shifts

You will have:

•    Class C Licence
•    Experience operating sweepers or similar heavy equipment (training can be provided for the right candidate)
•    A strong focus on safety, reliability, and attention to detail
•    Ability to follow set routes, timeframes, and respond flexibly to shifting priorities
•    Pride in delivering a clean, safe, and visually appealing environment
•    A good level of physical fitness and comfort working outdoors in all conditions
•    Strong communication and basic reporting/documentation skills

 

The salary range for this opportunity starts at $57,050 (Grade A, Step 1) + AWCA2 + 11.5% super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
