About the opportunity
Blacktown City Council is seeking a permanent, full-time premier legal professional to be a part of the catalytic growth of Blacktown City!
As the Principal Solicitor you will work closely with and support the Executive Corporate Counsel with steering a high calibre team of professionals, both internal and external to Council. You will deliver precision at pace, as you work across an array of matters spanning leases and land use planning, to environmental, contract litigation and everything in between, whilst juggling the demands of the Corporate Counsel team and peers.
This is a newly created and senior position within the Corporate Counsel team who are an integral part of the structure sustaining operations and underpinning the City's transformation. The Corporate Counsel section is known and responsible for delivering high quality, local government specific services and advice, and the service level expectation is high. They work with; all Council staff, Councillors, external solicitors, law enforcement and specialist consultants, government agencies, Ministers and more, and most importantly, with the residents, investors and business owners across Blacktown City.
The team is presently undergoing change and expansion, as they shift ways of working. All of this requires the individual in this role to bring strong leadership skills, fast intellect, energy, empathy and respect for community; and be foremost in their legal field of practice. The type of work and level of daily interaction also requires that the team works predominantly onsite at our offices in the Blacktown CBD, with some work from home. You will have the support of a great group of people in the Corporate Counsel team and across Council, and the guidance of a highly experienced Executive. The Executive Corporate Counsel is a respected pioneer and leader in the Government sector you can learn from and share with, as you work in the Corporate Counsel team.
