We're on the lookout for lifeguards to join our team! Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting your career journey, we welcome individuals at all ages to join our dynamic team at one of our seasonal pools in Alexandra, Eildon, Marysville or Yea.
Please take note that Life Saving Victoria recommends a minimum lifeguarding age of 16 years. However, we are open to considering applications from individuals below this age.
About this opportunity
The Lifeguard is responsible for supervising the safety of patrons in the pool area as well as identifying and responding to potential risks and taking appropriate action to reduce those risks.
Lifeguarding duties, include:
- Keep a watchful eye over the pool, ensuring the safety and well-being of all swimmers and at times enforcing pool rules and regulations to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
- Be the friendly face of our swimming pool; answer questions, offer poolside recommendations, and make every person feel welcome.
- Respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations, providing first aid and CPR as needed.
- Work in a team to deliver outstanding service and ensure a smooth operation.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the whole facility including the bathrooms.
What will you bring
- Valid lifeguard certification, including CPR and First Aid training.
- Strong swimming skills and proficiency in water
- You are self-driven, resourceful, and able to take charge of their work with minimal guidance
- Possess excellent communication skills and a friendly disposition
- Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations.

Important information about first aid and lifeguard training:
- You must hold a valid lifeguard certificate and a current First Aid certificate to be eligible to work as a lifeguard.
- To support you in completing the required training, group training sessions have been organised. You can also organise your own training.
- We recognise that training can be a significant upfront cost, so Council will cover the cost initially if you attend one of the Council arranged trainings and invoice you mid-season.
- All training costs remain the responsibility of the individual.
First Aid Training
- You must hold a current First Aid certificate prior to completing the lifeguard refresher course.
- CPR is included in the lifeguard refresher, so your CPR qualification does not need to be current before attending.
- First Aid certificates are valid for three years. Please check your expiry date to ensure your certificate is up to date.
- You must hold a valid First Aid certificate that is current until at least April 2026 for your lifeguard qualification to be accredited.

- Wednesday 20 August, First Aid, Alexandra, 6.00 - 8.00 pm, $170
- Sunday 24 August, First Aid, Alexandra, 9.30 - 11.30 am, $170
Please note: 3 hours of online course work is required to be completed prior to attending the course.

- 13 and 14 September – Lifeguard Training, Seymour, 8.30 am - 5.00 pm, $360 (CPR included)
- 20 September – Lifeguard Refresher, Seymour, 8.30 am - 5.00 pm, $180 (CPR included)
- 21 September – Lifeguard Refresher, Seymour, 8.30 am - 5.00 pm, $180 (CPR included)
Compulsory Training dates:
- 25 October, Council induction and skills test (location TBC), 9.00 am - 2.00 pm
- 1 November, Marysville Pool Induction, Marysville Pool, 8.00 am - 12 noon
- 1 November, Eildon Pool Induction, Eildon Pool, 1.30 - 5.30 pm
- 2 November, Alexandra Pool Induction, Alexandra Pool, 8.00 am - 12 noon
- 2 November, Yea Pool Induction, Yea Pool, 1.30 - 5.30 pm
Please note: you will only be required to attend one pool induction
