The Position
The Manager Waste and Resource Recovery will lead the Waste and Resource Recovery team to ensure the efficient and effective, commercially sound, delivery of best practice waste and resource recovery services in the region. A key component of the role is to contribute to a community education campaign that achieves proactive, participative, self-regulation, improving public safety and community outcomes related to waste and resource recovery.
This Leadership role has been developed following a strategic review of the organisation’s operations and has been designed to achieve best outcomes for the Cassowary Coast Region, our community, our organisation and the people that visit, live, work, do business and come to our region for enjoyment.
Council’s leadership team have several key focus areas: Community, Economy, Infrastructure, Region, and Organisation. Through these key focus areas and as part of the leadership team this role will drive effective work practices, a safe work environment and the transformation of culture, to develop and maintain an engaged work environment with a community and customer focus.
About You
You are an experienced and motivated Waste Management Operations Leader able to oversee the delivery of waste and resource recovery services. This role requires strong leadership skills, strategic thinking, and a solid understanding of civil construction, facility operations, and fleet management. The successful candidate will lead operational teams in a dynamic environment, ensuring service efficiency while complying with regulatory requirements. A key aspect of the role involves engaging with the community to promote sustainable practices and support Council’s strategic goals.
Our ideal candidate will hold tertiary qualifications in Waste Management, Business Management, or possess substantial experience in the sector. You must demonstrate a strong ability to manage complex documentation, improve operational systems and procedures, and lead change through effective communication and behavioural leadership. You have a proven track record in regulatory compliance, community consultation, and continuous improvement is essential for success in this role.
