The Role - 4 Year Term

The Manager Finance plays a pivotal role in shaping and delivering the strategic direction of Council’s financial services. This role holds key accountability for driving the overall financial performance of Council through effective leadership of the Finance team. As a champion of Council’s Vision and Values, the Manager will lead by example and foster a culture of excellence and integrity.

A core responsibility of this role is the provision of high-level financial advice to staff, managers, executive leadership, and elected members. This includes guidance on statutory reporting, financial performance, annual budget preparation and reviews, financial sustainability modelling, investment and treasury functions, cash flow management, rating, and payroll operations.

This Leadership role has been developed following a strategic review of the organisation’s operations and has been designed to achieve best outcomes for the Cassowary Coast Region, our community, our organisation and the people that visit, live, work, do business and come to our region for enjoyment.

Council’s leadership team have several key focus areas: Community, Economy, Infrastructure, Region, and Organisation. Through these key focus areas and as part of the leadership team this role will drive effective work practices, a safe work environment and the transformation of culture, to develop and maintain an engaged work environment with a community and customer focus.

About You

You are a qualified finance professional with a tertiary qualification in Finance, Accounting, or a related field, supported by extensive experience and demonstrated expertise in financial management. You are also a member of either the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants (CPAs) or the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

You bring advanced financial management skills, including experience in preparing financial statements, managing audits, and undertaking long-term financial modelling. You have a proven ability to implement modern business systems within a medium-sized organisation, focusing on improving efficiency and service delivery.

You are an experienced leader with a track record of managing teams and resources in complex environments, consistently delivering high levels of customer satisfaction. Importantly, you have demonstrated success in leading organisational change through effective systems and change management practices.
