Murrindindi Shire Council has an exciting opportunity for a Victorian Climate Resilient Councils (VCRC) – Regional Project Officer. VCRC is a program of support for Victorian councils to increase their climate resilience. It will be undertaken over three years from 2025 to 2028. It is being led by the Victorian Greenhouse Alliances (VGAs), partnerships of councils helping their members to address climate change.

About this opportunity

In this role of VCRC Regional Project Officer, you will offer support and advice to low-capacity councils in rural and regional areas, and promote the VCRC program and the benefits of climate resilience to those councils and their leadership. Your connection and feedback from councils will be critical to the continuing development of the VCRC program. Your work with online resources will help councils increase their adaptive capacity to become climate resilient and will support the timely delivery and evaluation of the VCRC project.   

The VCRC Regional Project Officer role is hosted by one of the VGAs, the Goulburn Murray Climate Alliance, based at Murrindindi Shire Council. This role is based at Murrindindi Shire Council, and can be remote and/or hybrid based. The VCRC team will operate through the Western Alliance for Greenhouse Action (Brimbank and Wyndham City Councils). The team will largely meet online. 

In this role you will:

  • facilitate joint projects between participants as they arise
  • ensure there is alignment and / or engagement with projects by the VGAs and other stakeholders
  • develop and deliver stakeholder events, including webinars, workshops and training for councils
  • provide input to, and deliver, the stakeholder and communications plan
  • provide presentations and facilitate workshop sessions as appropriate
  • provide input to the writing of monthly newsletters
  • coordinate the development of / directly develop appropriate resources for VCRC – updates to VCRC digital platform, monthly newsletters, guides, case studies, step by step guides, working with consultants where needed
  • co-create and maintain a work plan incorporating adequate scheduling and management of tasks for VCRC and participate in VCRC team meetings and discussions
  • support reporting and evaluation for the project
  • carry out other duties commensurate with skills and abilities as deemed reasonable and appropriate to the role as directed from time to time.
What you will bring
  • Degree or diploma in Environmental Science or Environmental Management or similar, with several years of subsequent relevant experience, particularly in climate change adaptation or lesser formal qualification with extensive relevant experience.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of organisational climate change adaptation issues and challenges, preferably within regional local government.  
  • Ability to provide responsive and timely program delivery to participants and deliver adaptation advice targeted to participants needs. 
  • Demonstrated capacity to build and maintain strong relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders from different levels of an organisation and in different forums.  
  • Ability to envision and plan for a complex program with several disparate components.
